How to Get Into IAS/IPS?

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to higher civil services of the Government of India, including IAS, IPS, and IFS. It is a rigorous process conducted in three phases:

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit: 21 to 32 years for General category (relaxations apply for reserved categories)
  • Educational Qualification: A degree from a recognized university. Final-year students can also apply.

Preliminary Examination

  • ✓ Held in May/June every year
  • ✓ Two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper I and CSAT
  • ✓ Results announced in July

Mains Examination

  • ✓ Held in August/September every year
  • ✓ Nine descriptive papers, seven counted for ranking
  • ✓ Results announced in December
03

Personality Test (Interview)

  • ✓ Held in January to March
  • ✓ Final results announced in May
